The Nordic Centre of Fudan University is a cooperative platform jointly established by Fudan University and several universities from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland. It serves as a bridge for scholars and students to exchange and cooperate between China and the Nordic countries.

Founded in 1995, the Nordic Centre was initiated by a group of Norwegian and Swedish professors who had collaborative relationships with professors at Fudan University. Yang Fujia, the then-president of Fudan University, strongly supported the center. Gro Harlem Brundtland, the then-Prime Minister of Norway, attended the center's establishment ceremony.

The purpose of establishing the Nordic Centre was to create a platform for scholars and students from both China and the Nordic countries to communicate and enhance the relationship between China and the Nordic nations through academic exchange and cooperation. Its ultimate goal is to foster closer connections and deeper understanding between China and the Nordic countries through collaborative research and education.

The activities of the Nordic Centre mainly include: 1) organizing workshops, seminars, and academic conferences on topics of mutual interest for scholars from China and the Nordic countries; 2) providing education for Chinese scholars and students studying the Nordics and for Nordic scholars and students studying China; 3) arranging activities and courses in Shanghai for Nordic business groups.

Since its establishment in 1995, the Nordic Centre has become a venue for exchange and cooperation between Nordic and Chinese scholars. The centre hosts a series of academic events annually, including various courses, seminars, teacher-student exchange programs, and collaborative research. The centre has a library that is open full-time for use by Chinese and Nordic students and scholars.

The Nordic Centre has a board and a council. The council is the highest decision-making body of the centre, composed of one representative from each member university, meeting once or twice a year. The current board consists of one representative from each country. The Director of the Office of Global Partnership of Fudan University also serves as the director of the Nordic Centre. Additionally, there is a programme manager responsible for the daily operation of the centre and for liaising with member universities in the Nordic region. The programme manager comes from the Nordic region. Researchers from various departments at Fudan University, known as Nordic Centre Fellows, actively participate in the centre's activities and contribute ideas for its development.
