Marketing for Competitiveness:

The Singapore Inc. Experience.

Without any iota of doubt, the business environment is RUDE - Rapidly changing; Uncertain; Dynamic and Engaging.

In a rude environment, all organisations need to continuously transform and stay competitive, in order to keep abreast with, if not ahead of, the latest developments. This is especially so in a world that is increasingly digitalised and hyper-competitive. In order to remain sustainably successful, all organisations have to market themselves competitively. As what Philip Kotler said, “Poor firms ignore their competitors; average firms copy their competitors; winning firms lead their competitors.

Remarkably and almost miraculously, a tiny nation like Singapore, with hardly any resources, a small land area of around 700 sq km and no more than 3.5 million citizens, is able to make its mark globally, by any economic measure. That it can do so, is due to its ability to stay competitive and to market itself competitively in a digital world. Countries or organisations, profit or non-profit, big or small, established or start-ups, may find useful lessons from this tiny island-state’s growth experience.
