Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program Ranked Global Top-20r for Six Consecutive Years
On October 24, Financial Times published the EMBA Global Ranking 2011, in which the EMBA program jointly initiated by the School of Management at Fudan University and Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) ranked consecutively among the world's top 20 for the 6th year with its superior strength, and the first among EMBA programs in English in Mainland China. The ranking has displayed the strength and achievements of the Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program and at the same time reaffirmed the non-stopping exploration and efforts made by the School on its way to realizing internationalization.
As the authoritative ranking of the education in business schools which is acknowledged worldwide, the annual ranking released by Financial Times is based on comprehensive and precise investigations and accurate data, and therefore is extensively influential around the globe. The data of the ranking are collected through a series of investigations and studies, covering such fields as students' comprehensive qualities and career development, academic achievements and research capacity of the schools, internationalization of the schools, etc. As for the ranking mechanism, a scientific ranking standards system has been adopted by the investigation, which includes complicated and rigorous scoring critieria to ensure the authority and credibility of the ranking list.
In the single items of the EMBA Global Ranking 2011 issued by Financial Times, the School ranked the 5th globally in terms of Student Average Working Years which mirrored the great significance attached by Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program to the management practice and experience of the students. Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program has guaranteed and improved the overall interaction of the course and students' study by having students with certain management practices and experience interact and share with each other what they have learned, and has built a higher and wider platform for student development in the future by establishing a high-quality alumni network platform. The ranking has also shown that Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program emphasizes the quality of teaching and curricula, removes the impetuous mentality of seeking instant benefits, and selects future business leaders with a solid and steady attitude in an effort to ensure the high-level and high-quality course and students.
In the ranking this year, Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program ranked the 9th globally in terms of Alumni Average Payment. With average annual paymentof 237,847 U.S. dollars, this index has not only embodied the strong strength of China's economy around the world, but also affirmed the program's foresight and strength in selecting and cultivating talents. It is exceptionally worth mentioning that the Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program ranked the 20th in the globe in the sub-indicator of Rigorous Teaching, reflecting the consistent good reputation it enjoys.
Meanwhile, the proportion of female students in the Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program have reached 38%, indicating that more female leaders participate in business competitions and make contributions to the social-economic development in China, even in Asia.
Taking a comprehensive look at the EMBA Global Ranking 2011 issued by Financial Times, we can find that the cooperative programs, especially those with Asian countries, have become more important in the list, as a continuation of the robust trend since the beginning of this year, and ranked remarkably in each individual or comprehensive ranking. The change in the trend shows that, with the advancement of global economic integration, the demands for talents and direction of talent cultivation in the business field have increasingly placed extra emphasis on their internationalized backgrounds. With the economic rise in China and Asia, more business talents desire to know about Eastern and Western business environments and modes and hope to perfect their own structure of knowledge and network of connections to lay a solid and perfect foundation for the development in the future by sharing information between both sides.
Economic Rise in China, Great Demands for High-end Talents
In recent years, with China's long-term and steady economic development and the unusual economic vigor it has displayed, the world is watching China returning to the center of the international economic stage, while the economic situations in Europe and America have plunged into crisis for several times, which has not recovered completely up till now. The rapid economic rise in China has given birth to an urgent and great demand for professional talents who have solid management knowledge system, understand the national conditions of China and, at the same time, have international views and abilities. It is just this brisk demand that has built EMBA education in China and even in Asia into the highland of resources in the educational field, and allowed China to collect advantage educational resources from all aspects, to absorb a large number of elites in the business field, and to accumulate enough experience in business education, thus making it the cradle of cultivating excellent commercial leaders in the future.
As the first higher education institution in business education in China, the School, dependent on the extensive and solid academic foundation and humanistic atmosphere at Fudan University and the high-end information from all aspects and human resources gathered in Shanghai, an internationalized metropolis, has always deeply rooted in enlightened China, devoted to innovative researches and the cultivation of professionals, academic elites and social leaders with global views and deeper understanding of the national conditions of China in the hope of contributing to economic prosperity and social development. Upholding the down-to-earth philosophy, the School has gradually realized internationalization in each and every aspect, including holding trainings for senior managerial personnel with Harvard University, opening senior courses on supply chain management with Stanford University and setting up an alliance of business schools with five first-class business schools in the world such as ESSEC Business School in France. Each and every course has shown the efforts and determination that the School of Management at Fudan University has made on its way to internationalized expansion.
On the basis of the usual mission of the School and in correspondence with the demands of the times, the School cooperated with Olin Business School at Washington University and jointly opened EMBA course in 2002. As the first Sino-foreign EMBA Program officially approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education, Fudan-WUSTL EMBA Program, based on the national conditions of China, has been committed to cultivating internationalized management elites for the global management since it was launched and has fully displayed rigorousness and excellence under the internationalized background in such key elements as faculty strength and students' constitution, which can be proved further by the remarkable achievement that it has been ranking among the top 20 globally on Financial Times in England for six consecutive years.

Research Result of Professor Qin Lunxiu from Zhongshan Hospital Published on Gut
The research team led by Professor Qin Lunxiu from the Institute of Liver Cancer, Zhongshan Hospital, found that IL-2 and IL-5 protein level in the peri-cancerous tissue of the patients of liver cancer have an important predictive value in the metastasis and recurrence of liver cancer after operation. The research result has been recently published in Gut, an international famous d Gastroenterology journal, which has an impact factor of 9.4 and is ranked NO.2 in the Gastroenterologyjournals.
Liver cancer has a high degree of malignancy and poor prognosis, ranked the first in all cancers. Although much progress has been made in research and 5years survival rate of the liver cancer radical resection have reached up to 40% in some clinical centers, the high rate of postoperative metastasis and recurrence are still the bottlenecks of further achieving the long-term therapeutic effect. If we can predict the risk of postoperative metastasis and recurrence, and provide timely and effective intervention treatment, the cancer patients can achieve a longer survival.
There are a lot of inflammatory cells in the tumor micro-environment, which secrete cytokines, chemokines and growth factors, providing the necessary inflammatory micro-environment for the incidence, development, invasion and metastasis of cancer when taking the immune response to injury. Their working mechanism is very complicated, promoting cancer and fighting against cancer at the same time. In early research cooperation between Zhongshan research team and United States, molecular forecasting model of liver cancer metastasis wasset up by 17 major genes, proving that inflammatory and immune imbalance of micro-environment is an important aspect of the metastasis and the inflammatory immune factors can predict the metastasis. This research result was published in 2006 in the journal Cancer Cell and has beencited many times by the Journal of Clinical Oncology and other international famous journals. Associate Professor Zhou Haijun and his graduate students confirmed that IL-2 and IL-15 from 17 inflammation-related molecules are the most important independent prognostic factors from the protein levels through retrospective study of large samples. They also found that IL-2 has a good prognosis predictive ability for early liver cancer with little predictive clinical and pathological features, further confirming that Th1-type immune response in peritumoral microenvironment is beneficial to preventing the metastasis and recurrence of liver cancer. The study is expected to find the new strategy to avoid cancer metastasis through the modulation of inflammatory and immune micro-environment.
