Fudan’s Name:

Fudan University was founded in 1905, initially named Fudan Public School. Its name “Fudan” was

quoted from a line in Shang Shu (the book of History), a Confucian classic, which reads “Brilliant is

the sunshine and moonlight, again the morning glory after the night”, an aphorism which calls for making

unremitting efforts to improve oneself.

In April Year 2000 Fudan and Shanghai Medical University merged into a new Fudan University.
