From Harvard

We write to you on behalf of the Harvard College Association for U.S.-China Relations (HAUSCR), a Harvard College student-run organization dedicated to promoting the exchange of ideas and opportunities between students at Harvard and across China. We are excited to invite college students from your university to apply for our second annual symposium series and student exchange program that will take place the week of April 2-9, 2010 at Harvard University. Through an intensive two-day symposium series featuring panels, performances and workshops by guest speakers and distinguished Harvard faculty, we seek to stimulate cross-cultural dialogue about the importance of increased U.S.-China understanding through exploring the theme, “The Art of Representing China on the World Stage: the Development of Chinese Identity through the Individual.”

To foster open discussion between top college students from China and the U.S., we will complement our symposium series with a weeklong student exchange program. Twenty to twenty-five top Chinese college students from some of the most prestigious universities in China, including Fudan University, will be invited to spend a week at Harvard University to be immersed in the culture of American higher education. In exchange, the Chinese delegates will share their personal insights on Chinese culture and society with members of the Harvard community. We are looking for students who are (1) comfortable and eager to communicate in English with distinguished speakers and top American (and multinational) college students, (2) are interested in promoting and increasing their understanding of U.S.-China relations, and (3) are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and talents related to Chinese culture with a diverse Harvard audience.

We believe that this student exchange program is a truly unique opportunity for students at your school to experience American college life — and more specifically, the Harvard life — as well as discuss and explore U.S.-China relations with established scholars and artists of today. They are the future leaders of the world, and we believe that they have much to offer through this program. Therefore, we would like to share this great opportunity with as many students as possible, and we hope that many students from Fudan University will apply.

Thus, we would very much appreciate if you could assist us in publicizing this program to students at your university. Attached is a more comprehensive overview of our symposium series and student exchange program. Our application can be accessed at http://hauscr.org/usprograms and is due on December 31, 2009. Please email us at usprograms@hauscr.org to let us know if you could help us publicize this special program at Fudan University.

Let us know if you have any questions about our program, and thank you very much for your support. We look forward to work with you in the publicity of our program, and together, we can further the understanding and cooperation between the U.S. and China.

Sincerely,

Feifei Yi & Lillian Zhao
